The Basics of License:

Quote:

Originally Posted by Audition Online, Wikipedia
Before a player can gain experience after gaining a level (starting at level 6) in Audition, this player must pass a "License" This mode takes the player to a new room and shows them a required score, a required amount of perfects, and a required perfect combination that must be acquired within the time constraints of the song. The gameplay is almost exactly the same as normal, except for the fact that if it takes an extra measure or two to complete a move, the difficulty level does not drop (only the finish move can't be done in more than one measure). If the goal is met, the player receives a set amount of den, but if the player fails, he/she loses a set amount of den and must try again (and pass) before receiving any more experience.

Basically, if you don't understand the quote above , License is like an Audition Test, to test your keyboard skills (i.e. pressing arrows and spacebar), and in order to level up, you have to pass the license.

License is rather like normal game play mode, but if you take more than 1 measure (i.e. more than the time of a bar) to complete a certain move, the difficulty level will NOT drop (only the finish move can't be done in more than one measure).
This means that if you meet a move that you cannot finish typing in one bar's movement, and you did not press 'spacebar', you will remain in that certain level and continue with your gameplay, except for the finish move. This also applies for games that are conducted individually (meaning you're playing the game alone).
For example, you're doing a level 9 move, and you could not finish typing all the arrows in the time of one bar and only pressed the spacebar on the next bar, you will remain in level 9, and not drop to level 7.

When do we have to take License?

License begins at Level 5. At Level 5, when you're just about to level up, you would realize that you cannot gain any more experience points, only dens. This is because you didn't start doing your license.

Some of you may ask, "How do we know if we have to take our license?"
You have to take your license when you no longer gain any EXP in any game. Also, if you see a green circle flashing beside your name when you enter a room, it means you're required to take license. License Guide: Everything you need to know LicenseCircle

The closer you are to taking license, the lighter the colour of your level (beside your name).

Creating and Entering a License Room:

For Level 5 players, you cannot do license in Entry Channel, just go to any of the Free Channels and start there. A certain amount of dens is need to take your license (don't worry, you'll get back more than you spent if you pass!)
Once at the correct channel, find the 'Licensing' button. License Guide: Everything you need to know LicenseButton

It is just above the bulletin board, where u notice blue buttons such as 'Create room', 'Quick entry' and 'Replay'. Beside them you would see a green button saying 'Licensing' so click that.

License Guide: Everything you need to know LicenseButtonLobby

When you entered the room, you would encounter something similiar to this (of course, the requirements differ for different levels, this is the requirement to advance to Lv17) :

License Guide: Everything you need to know LicenseRequirements

That shows the information and requirement for your license. You can always leave the waiting room if you want to take the license later on, and no dens would be deducted.

When you have passed your license, you would receive a notice like this:

License Guide: Everything you need to know 2008_6_18_133245

Chance and 8 Key Playing:

Chance

For those who don't know, chance is playing the bar with blue and red keys mixed. When you see a red arrow, you have to press the opposite (i.e. If the red arrow is 'UP', you have to press 'DOWN') to get the correct key.
To activate chance, press the “Delete” button. When you activated chance, you will notice a “C” beside your bar. Press “Delete” again to off chance.
(For computer users, it is beside your arrow keys, together with the “Home”, “Insert” and other buttons. For laptop users, it’s at the top of the keyboard)

NEW CHANGES: THE CHANCE SYSTEM

During licenses, the chance system is set to "chance lv free". This simply means that you can choose the number of red keys you want.
Pressing "Delete" sets the chance level to 1. Pressing it again will increases the chance level (i.e.set the level to 2 and so on). When the chance level is 6 and you press "Delete", the chance system will be off (i.e. no more red arrows)
Pressing "End" will allow you to decrease the chance level. For example, you're chancing at level 4 (i.e. 4 arrows). If you press the "End" button, the chance level will become level 3.

I suggest you start chancing at or before level 10, as unless you can chain well, it is rather hard to achieve the score w/o chance or 8k at higher levels. If you are afraid that you would miss, you can always set the chance level to a lower one. I personally prefer chancing at level 3 or 4 (:

8 Keys Playing (also known as 8k)

8k means playing with 8 arrow keys on the number pad, which is beside the 4 arrow keys, containing of diagonal arrows of "1 (diagonal left down),3 (diagonal right down),7 (diagonal left up) and 9 (diagonal right up)".

Using Laptop for playing 8k

Note: I do not recommend 8k using laptops as it is extremely troublesome. Due to lack of a number pad, laptop users have to hold down the FN button (beside the CTRL button) and press the buttons 7,8,9,U,I,O,J,K,L,M on the right side of the keyboard according their position on the number pad.

To clarify:
7,8,9 = 7,8,9
U,I,O = 4,5,6
J,K,L = 1,2,3
M = 0

You can activate 8k by pressing the 'Insert' button (just beside the 'Delete' button). You will notice a green circle with the number 8 inside. This means that 8k is currently on. Press 'Insert' again to off 8k.

8k provides you with 1.2x the original points (i.e. If your normal move gives you 1000 points, doing a move with chance activated you will gain 1200 points).
8k is strongly encouraged as you will need it in freestyle moves/expert choreography moves later. Try practicing 8k before level 15, since from level 15 onwards, there will be many freestyle modes.

It is your choice whether you want to chance or 8k. Some people might find chance easier (like me), and others might find 8k easier. It all depends on you and the mode (i.e. freestyle --> cannot chance >.<)
If you're a really good player, try chance and 8k together. Remember, if u chance 8k, diagonal left up arrow (7) will become diagonal right down arrow (3) and etc.

Tips to help you in License:

Usually, during normal gameplay, if you missed a bar and did not press 'spacebar', you will drop to a lower level (i.e. If you're in level 9 freestyle move, and you did not complete the bar. Then, when you pressed the 'spacebar' in the next bar, you'll drop to a level 7 move)
However, as I mentioned earlier, during license, you can take more than 1 measure to complete the bar and yet not drop to a lower level.

This means that if you know for SURE that you'll miss, don't attempt pressing the 'spacebar'. Wait for the next bar instead as if you pressed the 'spacebar' and missed, you'll drop to a lower level move.

Also note that if you did a "Perfect" on a finish move, you'll get a 2nd finish move (applies to normal game play as well). The 2nd finish move is harder (i.e. 2 red keys). It'll earn you more points, but don't worry too much if you miss, because as we all know, the FM takes a long time to complete. So if you miss, you actually get to do more moves. Of course, the points scored will be lesser than a FM, but on the positive side, you can do more perfects during this time (:

You could try pressing F2, which adjusts the screen view (you can use it during normal play too!) and that makes the game more focused and easier to play.
Don't be nervous during licenses! For me, before the game starts, I always type to myself: "jyjys! you can pass XD" to boost my self-confidence ;D

Remember to practice the song for a few times beforehand to get used to it, you can check the song and requirements in this thread! You can play it with your friends so that you earn EXP and dens at the same time, or play alone to experience how the license will feel like (:

Hope this guide helped you!

License Guide: Everything you need to know Empty
PostSubject: Re: License Guide: Everything you need to know   License Guide: Everything you need to know Icon_minitimeThu Sep 11, 2008 9:11 am

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions):

Please feel free to address any questions you might have about License here (:

Quote:

1. What will happen if I don't take my license?
You won't get any EXP playing games and won't level up, so license is a very important part of playing Audition!

Quote:

2. What will happen if I don't pass my license?
You'll lose the dens that you pay when you enter a "License" room and stay at your level until you retake and pass your license.

Quote:

3. Why must we take license?
I guess it's like testing your skills in Audition, to make sure that you're suitable for a certain level.

Quote:

4. Can I ask my friend to help me do my license?
Literally, yes. But actually, level doesn't matter. Skill does. So even if you're a Lv 30 player but you can't pass your own license since, let's say, level 20? Your skills will be that of a Lv 20 and that's what really matters (:

Quote:

5. Must we use 8k and chance to pass license?
Not really, if you have the skills and perfect combo to pass, but it's recommended to use 8k or chance to aid you in higher level licenses (:
